Math 9

Course Overview

Students are continuing their journey in the study of mathematics and the foundational skills that are the necessary building blocks for higher level math. Mathematics is one of many tools available to us that help us understand God’s creation to its fullest.

By the end of Math 9, students will be confident in skills dealing with operations on rational numbers, exponents and exponent laws, operations with polynomials, linear relations, statistics and finances.

The course is assessed using the Mastery Math Method, where students work to demonstrate mastery before moving to a new topic, and the foundation is the communication between student and teacher. Students get the opportunity to engage with hands on projects throughout the course, applying both the topics learned as well as developing in personal inquiry and reflection.

Synchronous Option Available

This year we are piloting a synchronous option in this course. Students who choose this option will meet on Zoom as a group with the course teacher at a set time each week. The group will preview the week’s assignment and discuss any issues or questions. This option is designed to develop community, go over each week’s lesson briefly, ask questions, share work, get feedback, and support each other. We are very excited to offer this new feature and anticipate great success! Please and keep in mind that registration is limited this year, but we do hope to expand in the future.

Please email Titus Heckel if you have any questions: theckel @ onlineschool.ca.
