Virtual Worlds Art 10

Course Overview

Students completing this course have the opportunity to interact within a 3D virtual space and learn how to build digital environments and manipulate objects within these environments. This course takes place in a safe closed, moderated environment where students are encouraged to explore and create. In addition to the content covered in the grade eight class students in grade ten are introduced to more complex commands, art history critique (and essays), use of the Elements and Principles of Design within digital works and significant discussions regarding ethics and legal considerations when appropriating and using others base imagery.

Students will need:

  • A computer running Windows (5 years old or newer recommended), a USB headset with microphone, and a good internet connection are needed to complete this course.
  • This course is 12 weeks long and takes place in the first school semester. A substantial time commitment is expected during the final weeks of this program along with weekly online instructional meetings.

Details

Time Commitment:

90 minute weekly instructional meetings with an additional 90 minutes of self directed work on projects over the final 4 weeks.

Requirements:

Students are required to read course content, stream videos contained within the course content, download text files from Moodle, access online programs such as colorpicker.com, research topics of interest, use screen capture to record work and upload their assignments within Moodle.

Your child is...

  • An enrolled HCOS student

    If your child is already an enrolled HCOS student, you can add a new online course in your parent Encom account. Here are the steps to do this:

    1. Sign into Encom: encom.onlineschool.ca
      What if I don't remember my login info?
    2. In Encom, click on the Course Selection button. 
    3. This will show you all of the courses that are available. If you do not see a specific course that you were looking for, please contact your individual teacher (grades 5-9) or regional grad advisor (grades 10-12).
  • A new student wishing to enroll with HCOS

    To enroll your child with HCOS, go to onlineschool.ca/enrollment-options/enroll-or-register-now/. Read the information and requirements, then click the Proceed with DL Enrollment button, and complete the enrollment form.

    Once you have completed this process, you will receive an email with your username and password for Encom. Then follow the steps for an enrolled HCOS student to add new courses.

  • Attending another school, but wishes to take an HCOS course

    If you attend another school but wish to take just one, or a few courses with HCOS, please go to bconlineschool.ca for more information about how to cross-enroll. Click the Sign Up! button, near the top right corner, to get started:
