Introduction to ADST and Design Process 5-9 Online

Course Overview

What is Applied Design, Skills, and Technology? And what is Design Process? Learn all about the new ADST curriculum with exploration options in areas such as Business Education, Home Economics, Information and Communications Technology, and Technology Education.

Design Process is an amazing way to explore these areas, and this online module will explain the steps of Defining, Ideating, Prototyping, Testing, Making, and Sharing. Does this sound like hands-on activities and fun? It is!

Students are required to complete three modules of ADST subject per year in grades 5-9. Each module is approximately ⅓ the length of a core subject. This introductory module is a free online resource, designed to be used in a self-directed manner, then students will share their work with the individualized support teacher to receive credit for ADST competencies and content.

There are two different options or ‘streams’ to complete this module:

A) Simply read, watch, and go through the course content in the 5 lessons.
OR
B) Complete a project in any area of ADST (for example Foods, Woodworking, Media Arts, Computers, Robotics, etc) while working through the lessons and receive credit for 1 of 3 required ADST modules per year. See the BC Ed. Plan for more details on which elective subjects are included in ADST.

This introductory module may be repeated in grades 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 if a new unique project is made for each grade.
